Every day, Pick and Popovich will post one fake trade and explain why it makes sense for every team involved to make it. There are no parameters beyond fitting within the salary cap. Sometimes the trades will involve stars, others role players. They are not grounded in actual rumors, they just make sense on paper.
New York Knicks Receive: Brooklyn Nets Receive:
Thaddeus Young Robin Lopez
Why New York Would Make This Trade: Assuming the plan is for Kristaps Porzingis to play center long term, and that seems likely, moving Robin Lopez’s four-year deal makes some sense as he isn’t going to be a starter when this team is ready to contend. Thad Young gives them a power forward who helps defensively and provides at least a smidgen of spacing and playmaking.
Why Brooklyn Would Make This Trade: TWINSIES!!!!!!!!!!!!! What do the Nets have to lose? If they’re going to suck, might as well have fun with it and get some media attention. Plus, the two actually fit together. They hurt your spacing, but they have offensive chemistry and Robin can hide Brook’s defensive flaws.
