Every day, Pick and Popovich will post one fake trade and explain why it makes sense for every team involved to make it. There are no parameters beyond fitting within the salary cap. Sometimes the trades will involve stars, others role players. They are not grounded in actual rumors, they just make sense on paper. During the 2016 NBA Playoffs, each week will feature seven fake trades of one star player. This is DeMarcus Cousins Week.
Sacramento Kings Receive: Phoenix Suns Receive:
Devin Booker DeMarcus Cousins
Why Sacramento would make this trade: Booker might not be on the same level as Andrew Wiggins or Jabari Parker as a prospect, but he isn’t far behind either. He’s a better shooter than both and will make much less money for the next several years. Adding in Alex Len pushes the deal over the top.
Why Phoenix would make this trade: Cousins is the superstar Phoenix has been missing since Steve Nash left. They’d still have Brandon Knight, Eric Bledsoe and their lottery pick this season to build around as well. Suddenly the future looks much clearer in Phoenix.
