Every day, Pick and Popovich will post one fake trade and explain why it makes sense for every team involved to make it. There are no parameters beyond fitting within the salary cap. Sometimes the trades will involve stars, others role players. They are not grounded in actual rumors, they just make sense on paper. During the 2016 NBA Playoffs, each week will feature seven fake trades of one star player. This is Jimmy Butler Week.
Chicago Bulls Receive: Philadelphia 76ers Receive:
Jahlil Okafor Jimmy Butler
Why Chicago would make this trade: Though both players have their deficiencies, Okafor and Noel are still young and loaded with potential. If the rest of the team were built correctly, this could potentially be Chicago’s front court of the future. An added bonus? The deal creates plenty of extra cap space to chase free agents this summer as both Noel and Okafor are still on rookie deals.
Why Philadelphia would make this trade: It finally gets Philadelphia the superstar they’ve been waiting for, and it also clears out their front court glut. The 76ers could comfortably take Ben Simmons No. 1 overall if they win the lottery without worrying about fit with Butler in place at shooting guard.
