Every day, Pick and Popovich will post one fake trade and explain why it makes sense for every team involved to make it. There are no parameters beyond fitting within the salary cap. Sometimes the trades will involve stars, others role players. They are not grounded in actual rumors, they just make sense on paper. During the 2016 NBA Playoffs, each week will feature seven fake trades of one star player. This is Jimmy Butler Week.
Chicago Bulls Receive: Boston Celtics Receive:
Jae Crowder Jimmy Butler
Why Chicago would make this trade: It’s the ultimate “build around Derrick Rose” move. Crowder and Bradley are two of the best three-and-D players in basketball, and neither needs the ball all that much. If the Bulls really want to see if Rose can return to MVP form, pairing him with two of the best role players in basketball is an absolute coup. Olynyk is just the icing on the cake.
Why Boston would make this trade: Isaiah Thomas actually fits very well with Butler. His shooting combined with Butler’s isolation scoring and defense makes for a great young backcourt, and these Celtics would still be so loaded with long-term assets that they could easily build around the pair for years to come.
