Every day, Pick and Popovich will post one fake trade and explain why it makes sense for every team involved to make it. There are no parameters beyond fitting within the salary cap. Sometimes the trades will involve stars, others role players. They are not grounded in actual rumors, they just make sense on paper. During the 2016 NBA Playoffs, each week will feature seven fake trades of one star player. This is Tony Parker Week.
San Antonio Spurs Receive: Philadelphia 76ers Receive:
Nik Stauskas Tony Parker
Why San Antonio would make this trade: Sure, the Spurs could use another young shooter. Why not? This is mainly a cap dump, but hey, if Stauskas turns out to be a useful NBA player, all the better.
Why Philadelphia would make this trade: Parker is exactly the sort of player Philadelphia shouldn’t bring in but will because hey, they’re not tanking anymore! They’re trying to win games! It’s entirely counterproductive but it’s what the Sixers are going to want to do. Or rather, it’s what the NBA is going to want the Sixers to do. And apparently Adam Silver runs this team.
