Every day, Pick and Popovich will post one fake trade and explain why it makes sense for every team involved to make it. There are no parameters beyond fitting within the salary cap. Sometimes the trades will involve stars, others role players. They are not grounded in actual rumors, they just make sense on paper. During the 2016 NBA Playoffs, each week will feature seven fake trades of one star player. This is Tony Parker Week.
San Antonio Spurs Receive: Memphis Grizzlies Receive:
Clippers 2019 1st Round Pick Tony Parker
Why San Antonio would make this trade: It’s never a bad thing to have a Clippers’ pick. The odds just suggest that they’re going to make it valuable. And hey, more cap space for the Spurs.
Why Dallas would make this trade: It’s a cheap out for years of bad roster management, but with Tony Parker replacing Mike Conley the Grizzlies could conceivably keep this era of competitiveness alive for another year or two. They shouldn’t, but it’s a small-market team that needs to sell tickets. Parker does that.
