Every day, Pick and Popovich will post one fake trade and explain why it makes sense for every team involved to make it. There are no parameters beyond fitting within the salary cap. Sometimes the trades will involve stars, others role players. They are not grounded in actual rumors, they just make sense on paper. During the 2016 NBA Playoffs, each week will feature seven fake trades of one star player. This is Jahlil Okafor Week.
Philadelphia 76ers Receive: Atlanta Hawks Receive:
Dennis Schroder Jahlil Okafor
Why Philadelphia would make this trade: Schroder is young and still on his rookie contract, but Philly has three years worth of tape to decide if he can be their franchise point guard or not. If they believe in his long-term prospects, their isn’t a higher upside point guard available to them.
Why Atlanta would make this trade: Okafor could serve as sort of an Al Horford replacement if he leaves or they simply choose not to pay him. In fact, the saved money could be used to retain Kent Bazemore, and with some slight retooling the Hawks are suddenly not only still a playoff team next year, but a far more interesting long-term group with Okafor as the centerpiece.
